The USAID High Value Agriculture Activity in Moldova (HVAA) Project has launched a new call for grant funding to implement activities that will contribute to the use and expansion of irrigated areas in centralized irrigation systems rehabilitated with the U.S. Government funds through the Compact Program. The USAID / HVAA project aims, through its grants, to help diversify and improve the quality of services provided by the Associations of irrigation water users (AIWU) and to increase the quality and productivity of irrigated crops.

Amount of funding presumed available per grant may range from 300 th.-700 th. MDL and the total amount allocated for this grant call is approximately 1,7 million MDL. Eligible applicants include AIWU, production cooperatives, producers and landowners in areas with rehabilitated centralized irrigation systems. At the same time, grant applicants will co-finance 20% of the total amount required for the planned activities.

Potential activities may include, but are not limited to:

Revenue-generating activities for AIWU (e.g., equipment rental for its members);
Purchase and installation of irrigation systems for their use by AIWU members, as well as for their use for demonstration purposes;
Diversifying and improving the quality of services offered to its members;
Establishment of high value agricultural plantations on consolidated land (berries, greenhouses, orchards) requiring irrigation (the HVAA project can provide technical assistance and equipment);
Implementation of modern technologies that ensure the quality of irrigated agricultural production on a consolidated land, with the commitment to purchase irrigation water from the AIWU;
Establishing partnerships to provide irrigation services outside service areas in order to increase the volume of water sales;
Other relevant activities.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is December 5, 2018.
